Executive Functioning Coaching | Autistic Parent Support | Neurodivergent Family Therapy

Neurodivergent Parenting Support in Ontario & Quebec

Parenting is one of the most demanding cognitive and emotional tasks a human being can undertake. For neurodivergent parents, the challenges are compounded by systems and expectations that were never designed with their neurotype in mind. The parenting books, the school schedules, the social expectations, the mental load: most of it assumes a neurotypical brain.

At KalmMiMind, we offer parenting support and coaching specifically designed for neurodivergent adults who are raising children, whether those children are neurotypical or neurodivergent themselves. We do not offer a generic parenting skills course. We offer personalized support that starts with how your brain actually works and builds from there.

Neurodivergent Parenting Support Across Ontario and Quebec

We offer parenting support and coaching to neurodivergent parents throughout Ontario and Quebec, including Toronto, Hamilton, Ottawa, London, Barrie, Sudbury, Montreal, and rural communities across both provinces. All sessions are available via secure telehealth.

The Specific Challenges of
Neurodivergent Parenting

Support built for your unique cognitive and sensory profile.

Executive Functioning and the Mental Load

Neurodivergent executive functioning challenges, including working memory deficits, difficulty with planning and sequencing, time blindness, and emotional dysregulation, can make the administrative demands of parenting genuinely overwhelming. Keeping track of school forms, medical appointments, extracurricular schedules, nutritional planning, and household management simultaneously is a significant cognitive load for any parent. For neurodivergent parents, it can be paralyzing.

Sensory Regulation and Parenting

For Autistic parents, the sensory environment of parenting young children can be particularly challenging. The noise, the physical contact, the unpredictability, the emotional intensity: all of these can trigger sensory overload and nervous system shutdown at exactly the moments when calm, responsive parenting is most needed. Therapy and coaching help Autistic parents understand their sensory needs, communicate them to their partners, and develop regulation strategies that make sustained responsive parenting more achievable.

Parenting a Neurodivergent Child

Many neurodivergent parents discover their own neurodivergence through the process of their child's diagnosis. This can be a profound and complex experience, simultaneously validating and grief laden. Parenting a neurodivergent child when you are neurodivergent yourself brings particular strengths, including deep empathy, lived understanding, and authentic connection, alongside particular challenges, such as shared nervous system dysregulation and difficulty with the advocacy demands of navigating school systems and healthcare. We support both dimensions.

Shame, Self Criticism, & the Inner Critic

Many neurodivergent parents carry profound shame about their parenting, rooted in years of messages that they are too much, not enough, disorganized, unreliable, or difficult. Therapy at KalmMiMind directly addresses this shame, helping neurodivergent parents develop a more accurate and compassionate understanding of their strengths and limitations as parents.
