Crisis Intervention & Mediation in Ontario & Quebec

Crises do not follow business hours. A mental health emergency, whether a suicidal crisis, a family rupture, an organizational breakdown, or a sudden catastrophic loss, demands immediate, skilled, and calm professional support

At KalmMiMind, our crisis intervention services are designed to provide exactly that: a steady, clinically trained presence in the moments when everything feels like it is falling apart.

What Is Crisis Intervention?

Crisis intervention is a short term, focused clinical response to an acute psychological emergency. Its goals are immediate stabilization, safety assessment, connection to resources, and the beginning of a longer term plan. Crisis intervention is not full therapy: it is the bridge between acute crisis and sustained care.

Evidence-Based Response

Effective crisis intervention requires specific training, experience with high stakes psychological states, and the capacity to remain grounded under pressure. Our therapists are trained in evidence based crisis models including the Roberts Seven Stage Crisis Intervention Model and Psychological First Aid.

Types of Crises We Address

Immediate, skilled, and neutral professional intervention for critical moments.

Suicidal Ideation and
Self Harm

When suicidal thoughts or self harm behaviors emerge, immediate clinical support is essential. Our crisis intervention approach focuses on safety planning, means restriction counseling, connection to emergency services when necessary, and the therapeutic relationship as a stabilizing factor. We work with both the individual in crisis and, where appropriate, their support system.

Acute Trauma and Grief Crises

Sudden loss of a loved one, a relationship, a job, a pregnancy, or any other anchoring element of life can produce a psychological crisis that overwhelms normal coping capacity. Acute trauma responses following accidents, assaults, natural disasters, or other sudden events also require immediate skilled support.

Family and Relational Crises

A domestic conflict that has escalated beyond what the family can manage, a disclosure of abuse, an unexpected separation, or a child in acute distress: these situations call for immediate, skilled, and neutral professional intervention. Our family crisis support helps de escalate immediate conflict and connect families with appropriate ongoing resources.

High Stakes Mediation

High stakes mediation is a specialized service for situations where the conflict carries significant psychological, legal, or financial consequences. This includes divorce and custody disputes, workplace conflicts involving harassment or discrimination, family business succession disputes, and any situation where the stakes are high enough that unmediated conflict is causing serious harm. Our mediators bring both clinical training and mediation expertise to these situations, creating conditions for resolution rather than escalation.
